How many ways can you spell a name ?

One of the 1st things you learn in genealogy research is to look for different spellings of your surname. Well grandpa Reagan used 3 different spellings in his lifetime and even after he died.

Look at the pictures, pretty simple Reagan, but his death certificate says he was Regan. Check the census, well you can find him and family as Ragan, Regan, or Reagan depending on the year or whatever.

Grandma Reagan gave the info for grandpa's death certificate. Either she could not spell or did not check the spelling on the death certificate.

Genealogy can be interesting, grandpa Davis signed his name as x. One researcher said grandpa Davis changed his name after he had a falling out with his father and Church. He might have been German. Since he could not write I guess Davis was easy to spell than some German name with 5 syllables.

Me and the Grand Ole Opry

Was married 43 years this August, so I took the Wifey To the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. We also ate lunch on the General Jackson Riverboat, the had an excellent show and very good vittles.

I am not a great fan of Country Music, although I like some classic stuff by Hank Williams, and a couple others.

My dad loved country and as a captive child we got to listen to a lot of country music. And then Dad was a serial record player. He would play the same song over and over and over, like a 2 or 3 year old watching Shrek or Toy Story. He would wear the groves off a record, I have a couple of those 45's to prove it. One of the songs Dad wore out was Patti Paige and the Tennessee Waltz.

Anyway, we go to the Opry, it's at the Ryman cause of the May flood. So the show starts and the 1st guy on is Bill Anderson and of course he is older than dirt and he is going tp perform a Country Classic. He fires up the band and launches into the Tennessee Waltz. I wanted to jump up run out of there pulling out my hair. 3 problems with that. There are two guys sitting beside me, blocking my escape, #2 my hair left my head many moons ago, #3 my best run would be a slow jog and he would finish before I hit the exit door.

In all fairness he did a good job on the song, it was a very good show and I would go bask even if they sang that song again.

Can you read this ? are you illiterate ?

Take a look at the truck. Can you read it ? Now you know how it feels not be able to read.

If you know how to read, sometimes you can figure out words in a foreign language, but when they use a different alphabet it a different game.

Be Careful at Auctions even on line

Greene County has an auction site. My daughter has bought 2 good trucks there. Now I have bought a bus. A bid at the last minute was successful dag nab it. Not sure I really wanted to own a 1998 GMC bus. The good new is it has a wheel chair lift. It also has very low miles.

I guess the kids can haul me around in this beast if I ever need a wheel chair.
The State of Ohio charges an arm and 2 legs for plates plus it has to be inspected. Did I mention there is a charge for the inspection.

Now I am venturing into the world of Craig's List. Then maybe E Bay Motors or even the dreaded Auto Trader.

Maybe I can resell it to my niece, She can haul her mini farm of various varmints to the vet, dog park, lake or wherever various varmints hang out.

this is for the birds

I have one part time job anywhere from 18 to 60 hours a month.

Now I have another unpaid one. Wifey wanted a bird bath. She does not bathe in it so I am not sure why she wanted it.

Guess who's job it is to maintain it.......... you guessed it. ME.

So once you start putting water in this thing you need to keep it up. You think that would be simple, go fill it once or twice a week. Nooooooooo, the stupid birds splash half of it out and then poop in the other half. So now it needs cleaned out every day.

Well I do get some satisfaction, the early bird gets clean water, the late bird get to drink and bathe in poopy water.

Santa Time

Well it's Christmas time again. After many years in Retail it's kinda nice not being in Retail. Sometimes I think I miss Retail, then I wake up from the nightmare.

Anyway time for my favorite Santa joke.

Santa comes down the chimney, and to his surprise a very good looking playmate type women is lying on the sofa. She is wearing a very revealing, can you say Victoria's Secret type spaghetti strap night gown.

She says "Hi Santa, would you stay awhile with me, I can make your Christmas very Merry."
Santa replies " Ho Ho Ho Me must go, I can not treat my children so."

She gets up from the sofa, starts walking towards Santa, one strap falls from her shoulder, revealing not a small portion of her upper anatomy, "Please stay Santa, we can have such a wonderful time" she says.

Santa replies " Ho Ho Ho Me must go, I can not treat my children so."

Walking a little closer to Santa, the other strap can not contain her ample presents, and the night gown falls to the floor. She is now dressed the way she came into this world, she says, "please stay Santa, I want you for Christmas.

Santa replies, "Hey Hey Hey, I might as well stasy, I can't get up the chimney anyway.

Deer Hunting ?

It is called Deer Hunting, why I really don't know. It should be called Deer sitting or Deer waiting or freezing your butt off in the cold waiting for a deer to walk up so you can blast it.
Been awhile since I went Deer sitting, so this year I was reminded how cold you can get waiting for one of Bambi's relatives to show up.
I am still waiting, Bambi's relatives must have been out of town.
The internet is loaded with info, a very few of Bambi's daddies ever make it to trophy size. I laughed when I read a lot of sitters are taking Doe, waiting for the Big Un to show up. They let the young bucks go, hoping they grop up to be Big Bucks. BUT people with cars are very good at killing off these youngsters, and if the cars do not get them something else does.
So now the pin heads that try to estimate the population of Bambi kin are having trouble because the harvest ( nice word for blasted deer) is scewed because of the amount of antlerless deer blasted. Most deer won't send in the census forms to be counted.
I guess I will go back to deer sitting, the gun sitting season ends soon. And I don't sit with a bow, that usually requires sitting in a contraption up in a tree.
